Political Genesis, Formation & Assembly Dynamics

In the April 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, the newly founded Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) contested completely independently across all 234 seats and emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats. Following the election results and subsequent October 2026 by-election victories in Madurantakam (AC #35) and Dharapuram (AC #101), TVK increased its solo tally to 110 seats. Five secular parties—Indian National Congress (5 MLAs), Indian Union Muslim League (2 MLAs), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (2 MLAs), Communist Party of India (2 MLAs), and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (2 MLAs)—support TVK's governance agenda, creating an unshakeable 123-seat legislative governing coalition.
